Upcoming Medical Leave & Temporary Closure of Acme Ventures LLC

Acme Ventures LLC — including Acme News and Acme Solutions — will be temporarily pausing operations due to our managing director taking medical leave for a scheduled surgery.

  • Acme Ventures LLC, and all its divisions will temporarily shutdown operations at the close end of business on Friday, November 21.
  • Operations for existing clients will be paused from November 21 through December 5, with project timelines temporarily on hold during this time.

We will provide updates if the medical leave extends beyond this window or if work is able to resume sooner than expected.

No new clients will be accepted for the remainder of the year, and Acme Ventures will remain functionally closed through December 31, 2025.

This pause will allow us to focus on internal restructuring, including significant updates to our IT infrastructure.

“Over the past year, it has become clear that relying heavily on platforms operated by large corporations — such as Microsoft and Google — does not align with our long-term mission, security needs, or our obligation to protect client data, journalistic sources, or operational integrity,” said managing director Scott Pelkey. “As part of our EOY shutdown, we will be taking a look at the services and platforms we use as a business and making the transition to open-source and self-hosted tools and services where we feel its necessary or practical.”

These changes will strengthen our independence, enhance data security, and ensure that Acme News can continue its work without risk of deplatforming or third-party interference.

We look forward to 2026 and coming back stronger, healthier, and with a new set of tools and services that will help power local news and small business alike.
